Mayo jobs injection by Botox demand
Professionals in Irish sales jobs should note county Mayo is on course to benefit from an employment surge as global demand for Botox is leading a company to expand its plant.
Westport will see 200 new jobs created as US medical device maker Allergan increases the size of its Irish base through a 275 million euro investment plan.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed the cash-injection, suggesting it reflected increased confidence by Allergan in Ireland as a whole.
Managing director of Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland Pat O’Donnell said: “Based on Allergan’s present strategic plans, we anticipate that demand for Botox will continue to grow, fuelled by recent approvals of the product.”
As the 200 vacancies are set to be filled over the coming four years, it is believed a further 250 jobs will be created in indirect industries that will benefit from the expansion.
According to the Financial Times, the Irish economy is reliant on the exports industry to overcome the eurozone crisis and recession, with a recent survey showing consumer sentiment took its biggest dip in more than ten years in December.
