IT spending to increase almost 4% worldwide

Executives in IT sales jobs will be interested to learn industry spending is projected to climb 3.7 per cent worldwide in 2012, it has been revealed.

Strongest growth is predicted to be in the telecom equipment sector, where revenue is due to increase 6.9 per cent, recent figures from Gartner showed.

However, the impact of the Thai floods and the debt crisis in the eurozone worked to downgrade the analysis company’s original forecasts.

Research vice president at Gartner Richard Gordon said: "Faltering global economic growth, the eurozone crisis and the impact of Thailand's floods on hard-disk drive production have all taken their toll on the outlook for IT spending.”

Although worldwide figures showed promise for the year ahead, IT spending in Western Europe was forecast to decline 0.7 per cent.

The computing hardware division was predicted to grow 5.1 per cent globally, while the enterprise segment is expected to increase 6.4 per cent.  

According to security editor at Techworld John Dunn, anti-virus software is set to become cloud-based as it delivers real-time security attack detections.
