Smart technology extends working hours, expert claims

Executives in sales jobs may be working longer hours due to the influence of smart technology which enables them to work outside normal office hours, an expert has claimed.

Increased accessibility to the web via smartphone and tablet devices means employees can begin their day’s work at the beginning of their commute, believes Ella Williamson, gadget guru on the BBC’s Something For The Weekend.

She said: “It means people tend to work more, because they have smartphones and tablets which mean they can work on the tube, so it’s extending their hours.

“Smartphones and tablets will mean that you will work in places that perhaps previously you couldn’t.”

The expert highlighted the benefits of smart technology for business users, as it enables them to access social networking sites like Twitter, where they can discover sales strategies being employed by their competitors.

Further to this, the ability to social network on LinkedIn means professionals can make industry contacts while on the go.

The Econsultancy 2012 Email Marketing Platform Buyer’s Guide showed the UK email marketing industry increased 15.5 per cent in 2011, with smartphones predicted to further growth in the year ahead.
